Sun Protection Guide

GetFileAttachment.jpgIt’s the summer so that means the sun is out and we are all heading out to the beach or even just leaving our house. Whether your dipping your toes in the sea or buying an ice cream to beat the heat, it is so important to protect your skin from the sun. And guess what you don’t have to cover your whole body with long sleeves, trousers and a hat. All you need to do is swap out a few of your skincare and haircare essentials with sun protection in them, and voila you are set! So, here are my picks for protecting yourself from the sun.

I think it is just as important to take care of your hair as it is to take care of your skin, because anyone can tell you that the sea and the sun leaves you hair feeling dry and crispy. I have definitely experienced it myself. These 2 products have been my favourite, they really do protect your hair from the sun and the sea. Both of the products are from Philip Kinsley and I was so surprised about the results after using these products. Especially, Philip Kinsley’s SWIMCAP, which creates a layer on your hair to protect it from chlorine and the sea, and honestly it really does this, it’s incredible! My hair doesn’t feel dry at all after swimming in the sea. This product is a must for those who love swimming. The second product from Philip Kingsley Daily Damage Defence spray. Not only do I use it to protect my hair from the sun when I go to the beach or the pool, but it is great for protecting you hair from the heat coming out of a hairdryer so if you are looking for a good heat protectant, check this one out. It also leaves your hair nice and conditioned, which is another plus.

So, onto skin and lips. The weird thing is I never thought that my lips needed protection from the sun, so I always pushed that idea of buying a lipbalm with spf aside, but after coming home one day from the beach, my lips were peeling which left me so shocked, because I have never experienced this before. After that experience I found that spf is just as important on your lips as it is on your skin. What I love about this lip balm is that it is mildly minty which leaves my lips kind of tingly and refreshed, as well as protecting your lips from the sun. So, I do recommend this lip balm.

The most important part in my morning routine is applying spf to my skin.  In my opinion it’s best if you have a spf 40 and up, because the skin on your face is more delicate than on your body. I have been using a Sun Mist, which I think is the best way to apply spf, because it doesn’t leave your skin greasy and you don’t have to wait for the product to set into your skin. Plus, I don’t have as much of an issue with a white face using a mist than a cream product. So, this product gets a good thumbs up from me. Yet if you are one of those people who always forget to apply spf to your skin. The best alternative is a moisturiser with spf in it. My favourite is from NO7, it doesn’t break me out, it’s super moisturising on the skin and it’s just an overall great moisturiser. However, I wished that the spf was stronger, but to know that there is a least some, leaves me less worried. Plus, I always apply both the mist and the moisturiser, so my skin is well protected.

So, that is my guide to protecting your skin, hair and lips from the sun’s UV rays. I hope that it was helpful and that you follow some of these tips for protecting your skin.
