{May }You Discovery Box

20160507_155927.jpg

If you have been following us for a while you will know that I was subscribed to You Discovery beauty box last year. This year they have revamped their site as well a the box design much to my surprise. This month I decided to re-subscribe to the box to see what treasures they might have.

Screen Shot 2016-05-15 at 8.46.38 pm

I am pleased to say that this months box blew me away! Their selection of products ❤

Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 9.20.25 pm.png

Show Pure Treatment Oil  (Full size)

Probably the most luxurious looking oils I have ever set my eyes on, just look at that packaging! The thing I love about You Discovery is that it constantly It’s definitely from a brand that I haven’t come across yet.

The oil has a sweet dessert like scent and claims to restore your hair’s lustre and shine. The oil feels really rich but not as thick as the moroccan oil and instantly absorbs into your hair. According to the website… it is called “liquid gold”.

Rodial Stem Cell Cleanser (Travel sized) 70ml

Rodial is probably one of those brands that I have only recently come across after getting a mini in the M&S christmas calendar. They are definitely a luxury skincare brand which is probably why I haven’t seen them around.

Ingredients: antioxidants, coconut oil, rose hip oil, rose wax and coco butter.

The cleanser is super creamy and soothing on the skin, it can be used as a mask or a cleanser. For me personally I prefer to use it as a mask as it instantly hydrates your skin but, it if you want to use it as a cleanser it is super gentle on the skin and isn’t heavily scented.

Popband hair tie

This is a particularly useful product that I delighted to get because I mean.. first the sock goblins then the bobby pin thief and then hair tie runaway… I don’t know what it is about hair ties but they just disappear poof!

The hair ties claim to prevent damaging and creasing of the hair which can lead to brittle hair. I have used these before and I really like them, I like to wear them around my wrist just incase I ever need one. Plus now that it is Neon Green hopefully it won’t get lost… hopefully.

Verso  Super Facial Serum (Sample Size)

This month the box was full of luxurious products, with the hair oil estimating about £50, this serum (when bought full sized) is about £95! Crazy right?

The serum claims to having healing and strengthening properties containing a high dose of Retinol 8 and vitamin A. The serum is supposed to have a impact on the skin tone, texture clarity, luminosity and reduce signs of aging! Sounds like it ticks all the boxes, I have yet to use it but I am expecting pretty amazing results!

In addition to all these products you get a Anne Semonn £15 gift card that you can use on their website!

Like the glossy box “Ready, set, glossy” I will also do a full review of this! Stay tuned!

Spray on products seems to be a trend going around, with spray on nail polish, spray on moisturizers and now spray on quick drying mist, wonder what else is going to be sprayable soon.

Practicality: For those who like to be on the go and paint their nails, this is probably the best for you because it is the perfect handbag size, almost like a mini facial mist.

Does it work?: Relatively, it doesn’t work ‘immediately’. You still have to wait about a 30-60 seconds before you can use it, if you use it too soon and too close to the nail polish it almost waters down the nail polish taking it longer to dry. However, when used right it does work really well.

Scent: It was definitely a surprise for me when I came to use it, it has quite a strong floral scent which is a stark contrast to overwhelmingly chemical scent that comes with nail polish. When you spray it it seems to stop the chemical scent of the nail polish.

Tip:

  • Thin coat: 20-30 seconds before spraying the mist.
  • Thick coat: wait about 40-60 seconds before spraying the mist.
  • Spray light strokes from eye about 15cm distance.

Screen Shot 2016-05-07 at 1.34.03 am.png

Practicality: I think mini nail polishes are really adorable, and can be pretty useful when you want to take a few shades when you travel/on the go as they take no space at all.

Colour pay off: The polish is impressively opaque and super glossy, I personally think that one coat is alright but they recommend on the pamphlet to apply two coats with base and top coat.

This is the first time I have ever gotten tweezers in a beauty box and I think that these are pretty essential for quick maintenance! I personally swear by tweezers because I am slightly hesitant about getting my eyebrows done by others… maybe I should give it a try?

Practically: Extremely practical and useful for everyday eyebrow maintenance.

Effectiveness: I love how weighted these tweezers are, they feel like they are made of really great material that don’t bend when you attempt to pluck your brows. The slanted edge is also great for getting those stubborn few hairs and creating the perfect arch!

Tip:  The tweezers come with a cap, make sure to use it as it protects the tip from getting blunt or getting damaged if you drop it.

Dead sea moisture balancing minerals, energising vitamins and essential oils! Which sounded really amazing to me.

Effectiveness: It lathers up so easily with just a pea sized amount. I was surprised to find my hair was really airy and light the next day. However, I didn’t see a huge difference in hair hydration or shine but, my hair has been relatively dry as of late.

Scent: It has a really subtle soothing scent which I personally really enjoyed as it is was like a break from the usual extremely floral/fruity scents which are popularly used in a lot of hair products. It has a light herbal scent from the essential oil with a hint of floral notes.

Tip:

  • A little word of caution, be careful when squeezing the tube, the product is quite runny, so don’t squeeze too hard you might get more than you hoped for (learned from experience).
  • This is the perfect travel size at 40ml.

How to use/ Tips:

  • Concealer– Use it to cover blemishes, acne scar and as a concealer under the eyes
    • Effectiveness: It is pretty great for covering blemishes however, if you have problems with creasing under the eyes then I wouldn’t recommend this.
  • Brow shaper
    • Effectiveness: Great for using under the arch of brows to shape and create a clean brow.
  • Eyeliner/brightener
    • Effectiveness: Although it doesn’t say that it can be used as an eyeliner. I have tried using it as a bottom waterline eyeliner to brighten up my eyes and try a new look.
  • Cheek bone highlighter- not as brightening as a more pearlescent or shimmery highlighter but, for a quick option it is alright.

Hope you liked this full review of the box. Although the April box was sold out, I love how glossy box decided to come out with another box! Overall, really enjoyed receiving the box and opening the box.

Ready, Set, Glossy (Glossy box)

GlossyBox.jpg

It has been a while since I have written a blog post on a beauty box however since I will be heading back to HK after my final uni exams, I won’t have a chance to get some of these beauty boxes.

GlossyBox 1.jpg

After living my rose gold beauty box last year I decided that I really wanted to get another glossy box and see what they had in store.

Glossy 2.jpg

The pink box came with 5 products three of which were full sized. This month the box was more focused on nails, as you know I am not much of a nails kind of gal, but my mum is an advocate for them. If you want to know where to get them or more information on them click on the title (below)

You Discovery: November Subscription

With a new month comes a new subscription box. You Discovery’s November box was delivered and I couldn’t wait to open it. This month they has a variety of selections to choose from, from facial oils to Hair concealer.

2015-11-09 13.36.47

2015-11-09 13.37.22

2015-11-09 13.37.44

With every box comes a little booklet explaining to you what the options were for this month and their benefits. Here are the options for this month:
Screen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.13.23 amScreen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.13.31 amScreen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.13.38 amScreen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.20.01 amScreen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.13.52 amScreen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.14.00 amScreen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.20.08 am

2015-11-09 13.38.03

I chose the Jane Iredale facial primer and Josh Wood hair concealer in dark brown as I thought it would be a great gift to give as a gift to friends or family who regularly dye their hair.
2015-11-09 13.38.27

The box also came with a DHC face mask α -Arbutin white mask and a I love…perfectly peachy bath and shower creme.
2015-11-09 13.38.59

The DHC α-Arbutin Face Mask

The DHC α-Arbutin face mask, is a very different mask that I have never come accross before, I thought that face masks came with the same design or basic face shape but this one was quite quirky, it came with two flaps on either side of the face which I had no idea where to put as it would be on my hair. I also loved the fact that DHC is actually a Japanese brand, I have yet to receive any asian products in the box and this was a pleasant surprise.

Pros:

  • Left my skin looking brighter
  • The mask doesn’t slide down your face, it stays in place.

Cons:

  • Serum often ran down the sides of my face and down my neck leaving my forehead a bit dry.
  • The paper mask was a little two thick and absorbed more of the serum than my face did.

2015-11-09 13.39.37The Jane Iredale Skin primer

Screen Shot 2015-11-11 at 4.47.04 am

Pros:

  • Leaves your skin moisturised
  • Has a clean aroma of citrus.
  • 100% organic
  • Makes washing off your makeup very easy
  • Good for those who have dry skin
  • It might perform better if you set your face with a translucent powder.

Cons:

  • After a little while, it leaves my skin feeling a little oily and shiny.
  • I found that my BB cream moved around.

Overall, there was a great selection to choose from, I like that each month it gives me a few gift ideas and if I don’t see anything I particularly want or see something that might be a great gift I choose it.

UK Beauty Subscription Box Directory (2016)

Ever since coming to the UK, subscription boxes have been a regular monthly surprise, not THAT kind of surprise ladies, its definitely not red ;p But whenever the month before was not so good the little piece of paper that reads “You have mail!” always kept me excited for the month to come. I found that it as difficult to find an updated UK beauty subscription box directory and decided to make an updated one! Here are all the beauty subscription boxes available in the UK:

You Discovery: October Subscription

After Birch box last month, I decided to subscribe to You Discovery again. So far I have loved You Discovery and have been subscribed to them long before the  blog… which isn’t long as my blog is 3 months old. I received this just today through my post box and was super excited, I love the concept of the brand, I always find myself waking up early on the first day of the month (when they release the 6 monthly products) racing to pick the two products I want before it goes out of stock.

About You Discovery: If you sign up to their subscription box you will pay £6.95 PLUS P&P on the first of every month (which is a bargain!) . Unlike other brands you will find that it has a very different concept, every month they release 6 additional products in which you chose two to add to your box which contains a few products. You are able to pick the products on the 1st of every month at 7am, however, don’t take to long to choose because many of them go out of stock very quickly. After confirming your choices you will have to wait around 6-7 days for them to arrive.

20151007_152641

This months box featured brands such as Vichy, The white company, Revlon and Kore. The subscription boxes do come in the same design every month which one of my friends finds a bit boring but I don’t really mind it, its what is inside that matters 😉

2015-10-07 22.12.47

Every box comes with scrunched up hay like paper to cushion the products. This month’s options were:

Screen Shot 2015-10-07 at 10.55.24 pm Screen Shot 2015-10-07 at 10.57.38 pmI love how they have a variety of products for offer, Hair products, skincare, foot-care, make up etc.

20151007_152655 20151007_152702The boxes almost always contain a brochure with lots of info on the products that were on offer that month plus some extra coupons on the back.
20151007_152421

The White Company “Day” and “Night” samples:

The first product I got was two samples of perfumes from The white company, night and dark. These scents are very strong and feminine. The Day was lighter and fruity than the Night as it contained pomegranate extracts. The Night smells very musky and overpowering, this isn’t my type of scent as I find it too strong and musky.
20151007_152430Vichy Dermablend:

You also get 2 foundation samples, I like you get 2 samples to find your ideal shade. You can either keep the darker shade for yourself and use it as a contour or give it to a friend 🙂

2015-10-07 22.15.16

Kore:

This was probably the product I was eagerly awaiting to try, I haven’t heard of this product before. The pack contains the:

  • Foaming Cleanser – It doesn’t really foam that much but it is quite milky. I have only used it once but it wasn’t strong enough to take off my foundation but is quite moisturising.
  • Pearl Revitalising Toner– Warning: Do not spray it near your lips. I like to spray it all around my face however it tingled when I accidentally got it on my lips.
  • Pearl Gentle Exfoliator Trio– This exfoliator has a very odd texture almost like cream cheese and there isn’t a lot of exfoliating beads. For me personally I prefer a exfoliator that contains more exfoliating beads.

They are both free from parabens and animal testing. “increase collagen production for a clear, radiant complexion whilst preventing and restoring the signs of ageing and brightening environmentally damaged skin.”

20151007_152522

Revlon Colourstay Gel Envy: Topcoat & nailpolish.
And finally, I chose the Revlon nail polishes. It came with the top coat and a nail polish in the shade Checkmate 540. I chose these specifically because my mum has been wanting these and I decided that I might as well start stocking up for christmas now… its not too early right? haha!

These are usually £6.99 for  one. But you get two in a box that costs the price of one.

2015-10-07 22.13.55

This is a great October subscription box, it is truly well worth the £6.95.
