October Favourites

October has been the month where I have not tested out too many new products, but here are a few products that I have been loving this month.

Phytotree’s all day hand cream this product is so unique, as you would never expect cheese to be a scent for a hand cream, however the product itself does not really smell like cheese, instead it smells like cheesecake, which is so nice, because I love cheesecake. This product is so nourishing and creamy and has really helped to nourish and moisturize my dry hands.

Collection’s lip balm in green apple, this product is incredibly good, it is so moisturizing which I didn’t expect at all. Plus, it smells so good of apples, which makes it even better. I really love this lip balm.

Philip Kinsley’s Elasticizer, this is an amazing product, this product has been so hyped up, and it should be, my hair feels amazing after using this product, it looks shinier and feels softer, which makes it such a great product.

Giovanni’s Brazilian keratin and argan oil for those days where I washed my hair a tad bit late and need to go to bed soon after, blow drying my hair is necessary, which I usually don’t do, to avoid drying out my hair and also, I hate blowing drying my hair, as it takes too long (lazy girl problems) . I usually just let my hair dry naturally, just because I can do other things while I let my hair dry. But, this product really does help to add some shine into my hair and helps to protect it from the heat, as my hair doesn’t feel crispy or dry after blow drying.

GetFileAttachment-3Formula 10.0.6 Keep your cool calming breakout mask, this is an alternative acne mask, which tends to be clay mask, in order to dry out those nasty breakouts. I love this product because it doesn’t do that, the one limitation of clay mask is that, it dries the skin out, but with this product doesn’t. This mask is a gel like consistency, that is optional to wash off, it really helps to reduce those nasty breakouts, plus it smells like peppermint candy (yum). This is a product you can put on at night and wash off in the morning, and you don’t have to worry about it drying up the skin. So, it has been great during this month, as my skin has been feeling a little bit on the dry side.

So, here was my October favourites, I hope you enjoyed it.

What were your favourites this month?

8 Autumn hair tutorials

Screen Shot 2016-08-14 at 12.36.53

Fall is the best time to get creative with your hair, not just changing the colour or length of the hair, but experimenting with different hairstyles, which is my favourite part. So, here are 10 hair tutorial to try this Autumn.

  1. The double waterfall twist is a new twist on the traditional waterfall braid, it is so beautiful and definitely much simpler than the waterfall braid, in my opinion.

2. The braid chignon is a gorgeous up do, the hairstyle looks complicated, however it is so simple, which makes it so easy to add some elegance to any outfit.

3. The fishtail braid updo, another gorgeous updo, and another twist on the tradition bun. The addition fishtail makes the style more bohemian, which makes it a must try hairstyle.

4. Bohemian Braids, is such an easy and beautiful. Again, it is another bohemian hairstyle which is perfect for fall, plus the hairstyle consist of simple plats that anyone can do.

5. The messy 5 strand braid, from the 4 strand braid (fishtail braid) to the 5 strand braid, it just get better, it’s difficult, but it is worth it, because it looks incredible.

6. Half-up braided crown, this is definitely my favourite, it is so simple, but it really does change up your look. I think I will be doing this hairstyle a lot.

7. Quick side waterfall braid. Another simple design that will help to put your hair out of your face, and it is a great alternative to the traditional waterfall braid.

8. Rodarte inspired braid, this is such as cool hairstyle, almost incorporating the idea of a rose into your hairstyle, although flowers are usually associated to the spring season, I think this hairstyle works for any season. This hairstyle looks to elegant and unique and it is fairly simple to do.

So there you have it, 8 hairstyles to try for Autumn, that I can’t wait to try.

So, which is your favourite autumn hairstyle?

2 Last Minute Halloween DIY Decor

Here are some last minute Halloween decorations that can be done by anyone, as long as you have some basic tools.

All you need is:

  • Squash/pumpkin (fake or real)
  • Apple (fake or real)
  • White, green and black acrylic paint
  • a paint brush

Snow White’s Poison Apple:

(picture from google images)

When thinking of a simple idea using something that is really affordable and accessible, the first thing I found in my fruit bowl was “apple”, and immediately I thought of “snow white” and the poison apple. I remember watching snow white as a child and the scene with the skeletal apple remained in my mind so I decided to draw on from this and create my own version of this poisoned apple.

2015-10-30 03.41.58

Step 1: Follow the outline of the evil witch’s poison apple by using a clean paint brush, brushing on dots or lines just for a basic outline. Acrylics are best because they can be rubbed off with just a little bit of water.

Step 2: Fill in the lines. Do a second coat after the first layer dries.

Step 3:  do some shading, adding droops with black lines. Darkening the drooping “poison” to make it more 3 dimensional.

Step 4: Wait for it to dry and Ta Da!

p.s. You can eat these after halloween (if they have not gone off or are made of plastic) just remember to peel off the skin before consuming.

(picture from google images)

Franken-squash *giggles. Yes I am very proud of the name XD. I tried to get a small pumpkin in my local ASDA but found that they were way too huge and I didn’t feel like carving one. I found a squash which I plan on making soup with haha after halloween is over  (without the skin of course). So it was a win win, I struggled to get an idea on how to make these squashes more festive, immediately ghosts came up on google but it didn’t feel right. Then I thought that frankenstein’s  head could easily fit.

2015-10-30 03.43.00

Step 1: Follow the outline of the squash and how big you want Frankenstein’s head to be. Use green paint to paint a outline.

Step 2: Once you are happy with the size and shape, fill it in with the rest of the paint. You can be as rough as you want and bumps are fine as Frankenstein was far from perfect.

Step 3: Draw a outline of the dark shape with either a pencil (if you are more worried about accuracy) or a paint brush. It doesn’t have to be perfect as long as you get the basic outline.

2015-10-30 03.43.55Step 4: Fill in the outline with black. Keep looking back to the photo for reference so you don’t fill in the wrong areas.

Step 5: Totally unnecessary but I like how it brings more dimension to Frankenstein’s head. Mix white and green on any palette, plate or in my case receipt to get a highlight, don’t add water. Rub the paintbrush a little onto the receipt before rubbing it onto the forehead, tips of the nose, cheeks and upper lip. If you put too much, don’t fret, just wipe some of it off with a tissue or add some green onto to conceal the “blemishes”

Step 6: wait for it to dry.

p.s you can cut this squash/pumpkin up after halloween (if it hasn’t gone bad and isn’t made of plastic) and make some soup with the innards. Yum!

Halloween beauty products

Halloween is just around the corner… literally and this month I wanted to try some halloween themed products. I managed to find a few whimsical products and have loved the subtle pumpkin scent of my sleeping pack and using “dragon blood” cream as moisturiser definitely.

20151024_194413-1This Halloween there have been quite a few halloween themed products out in the market in Hong Kong and in the UK. With Lush’s halloween/autumn inspired bath bombs and halloween makeup I felt really inspired in trying to try new products.

[Too Cool For School]- Fresh Gore 100ml

Fresh Gore! Got to love that name! There seems to be a growing trend with “Dragons blood”, it hasn’t got anything to do with “Real Dragons” there is a plant called the Dragons blood. A tree that seeps blood like red resin and it’s berries exude red goo once ripe.

The sleeping mask has a light red tinge to it tinted by the “dragons blood resin”. However, this colour isn’t noticeable on the skin. It has a jelly like consistency and smoothes onto the skin easily. It is quickly absorbed into the skin making it feel supple on the skin. A con of it is that you have to wait a little while before you sleep as it can stain your sheets or leave sticky patches if you press your face to your pillow. Wait a couple of minutes until the product is fully absorbed into your skin.

[Too Cool For School] Pumpkin Sleeping pack 100ml

Jumping right on the Pumpkin spice and all things pumpkin in the autumn/halloween months. The pumpkin sleeping mask contains pumpkin which has been said to help moisturise and balance the skin. It has a peachy tint, creamy consistency and glides on super smoothly, a lot smoother than Too cool for school’s fresh gore. It also has a light scent, a clean scent with a hint of pumpkin.  Leaves your skin moisturised, supple and brighter in the morning. Love using this on other parts of my body, especially drier areas e.g my elbows and ankles. Smooth like a baby’s bottom 🙂

[Lady Kin] Vanpir Dark Repair Cream 50ml

I purchased the Vanpir Dark Line from a website called yes style a Korea based brand, where you can get Korean clothing, skincare etc.

I loved the concept of Lady Kin’s vampire teeth and again, “Dragons blood”. I had high expectations when they arrived (which took around 10 days, as they ship from Korea) but found my self not crazy about this repair cream. It was way too thick on my skin and made my skin break out. It is definitely for the more drier months and colder winter days. It does have a nice perfume scent but can been quite overwhelming if you apply it all over your face. It doesn’t have the same red tint from the dragons blood as the too cool for school mask has which would have won it a couple of points in my book. Overall, Don’t really recommend it for those of you who live in warmer climates unless you sleep with the air conditioning. However, keep this in your draw towards December when it gets colder and drier as it could be quite good for keeping your skin moist.

[Lady Kin] Vanpir Dark Repair Youth Activator 50ml

Unlike the Repair Cream, the Repair Youth Activator is pretty cool. The design is super cute and it has a reddish tint to the cream, it is lighter on the skin and absorbs really fast into your skin creating a very good base for your makeup. If you leave this in the fridge and apply it after cleansing it can give you a really refreshing feeling. I have been using this for the past month just to see if it made any difference to my skin as it is supposed to “lighten”, “reduce fine lines” and smooth out your skin. I did find that it did lighten my skin, not that it particularly needs more lightening, I’m quite pale naturally. However, I didn’t a great deal of fine line reduction which might take a little longer. Overall, not too bad for a product.

Boomers Bakery

It has been a while since I have written a cafe review blog post. After an extremely busy first half of my uni term and pretty much spending most of my time in the library I have found  myself in the same spot again and again. In Chatham maritime just a few minutes away from the University of Kent and Greenwich campuses, there is a shopping centre called “Dockside Outlet shopping centre”.

Ok this shopping centre isn’t as big as it sounds and really is quite empty but on a sunny day it has been my favourite spot to drink a cup of hot chocolate, eat a panini and just relax. The Boomer cafe has been on of my favourite places to eat. It only recently opened about 1 or 2 weeks ago and is already popular with visitors, including me.

The shopping centre has a really cool vibe to it, it used to be a old boat dock yard and I love how they stayed true to the original design. I love the idea of maintaining/keeping the tradition and history of old buildings. You can really find all sorts of outlets here: Bridal dress stores, beauty outlets, pound stretcher, cafes, the range etc.

Boomers already has a cafe/restaurant next door only recently opened  a small bakery that serves food to go.

It has a “old but modern” vibe to it, using the history of the shopping mall and the inspiration of the Australian outback to influence the design.

Boomers was created by true Aussie who wanted to share a taste of Australia…”

“I was missing my family and friends so I wanted to create an atmosphere reminiscent of some of the great things Australia has to offer”

(True Blue Hot Chocolate & Maple Pecan Cheese Cake)

They serve a variety of food, from Sausage rolls, Pink Joey sponge, Lamingtons, maple pecan cheesecake (above), hot drinks (True blue hot chocolate, see above), macarons, salads etc. 20151023_131525

So far I have tried their:

  •  Pink Joey (strawberry jam frosted sponge cake): ★
    •  The frosting has a very weird texture almost that of a jelly and tastes a little artificial.
  • Macarons (Raspberry, Lemon, Pistachio, Chocolate & Vanilla) ★★★★
    • They are all really tasty with the different flavoured fruit jams squished in between two macaron shells.
    • The chocolate being the richest out of the bunch
    • Love the texture of the pistachio, the cream in the middle has pistachio grains giving it some bite.
    • They also do a coffee flavoured macaron.
  •  Maple Pecan Cheese cake  ★★★★★
    • This is my favourite so far. Maple roasted pecans, fluffy whipped cream cream cheese on the top, rich and custard like maple cheese cake underneath it and a digestive biscuit base. Yum!
  • Mud Cake ★★★★
    • Tastes even better when microwaved, the chocolate melts down the sides and sponge cake.

Sweater Weather

Here are the 3 of my go to sweaters for Autumn.GetFileAttachment-2 GetFileAttachment-3

Abstract patterns are very popular during the fall period, and here are two sweaters that showcase that. Both sweater are quite monotone, in terms of colour choice, which makes it great for layering up with bolder coats,  jackets, or trousers.

Stripes are perfect all year round, especially for fall, and here is a sweater that perfectly captures the Autumn season, as it is light, but thick enough to keep you warm during this season. This sweater again, sticks to simple shades, such as grey and white, which makes it perfect to match with some burgundy jeans or trousers.
