Waffling and The Green Waffle Cafe

After landing in back in Hong Kong I was definitely looking forward for some good old Hong Kong style dim sum! Gah I love dim sum. However, since studying in the UK I found that I really don’t know Hong Kong that well there are so many restaurants, cafes and even places I haven’t been to. This summer I vowed to explore more and experience different restaurants. Here we go waffling again (a British term for talking to much about something that is not important), I came across this place when browsing the web for new places to eat, the reviews sounded good however, what drew me in was the pictures of waffles attached to these reviews.

The restaurant has a very eco friendly vibe, with lots of greenery, as you can probably see from the picture above. They have individual seating or seating for 4 maybe five if you have children. The restaurant, has a great family vibe with a variety of dishes available, their most popular being their waffles. We ordered:

The Spicy, Sausage Skillet which came with bitesize hash browns, an egg, spicy sausages and loads of cheese. The spicy sausage skillet rings true in its name as it is pretty spicy, we had a 10 year old with us and she didn’t like how spicy it was.20150712_110322
The Berry Waffle with chocolate ice-cream came with banana’s, a thick waffle, chopped berries (strawberries and blueberries) with a ball of chocolate ice-cream. It went down the fastest and disappeared before the quesadillas arrived. 20150712_110453

The Breakfast Quesadilla was the perfect potion for 3 as it came pre-cut. It was a large dish with cheesy scrambled eggs, sausages and hash browns on the side. 20150712_110300

However, the down side is that it if on a diet, probably avoid this option as it is very carb heavy. Whether you are wanting to go with a large group of friends, being a small cafe it has limited space.  The drinks sound heavenly with milkshakes and a variety of juices however, their prices are quite high for a drink. For those with a good palette, you may find that their dishes are a little bit repetitive, as they have hash browns with every dish and use similar spices .

Overall, a good place go for brunch or even breakfast, with cozy vibes. Great for family occasions or meet ups with friends. However, be prepared to leave with a food baby!

It was that feeling, the feeling of not needing to care, that privilege, that safety.

It has been 8 years since my last car ride, every time it amazes me what memories it can bring back, willingly and unwillingly. Although, I ride the bus and taxi now and some may say that it’s the same thing… to me it’s not. Last week I sat in a family friend’s car and for the first time in a long time, I felt relaxed. I’m someone who always worries & is tense, ready to protect myself and love one from strangers who glare of live in fear of a my own safety. Now writing this, I guess I am just paranoid… but with all these stories going on in the media, one can not always be too careful. But, I digress, this car wasn’t a limo nor an expensive car it was a 7 seater packed to the brim with friends and family but to me it was the most luxurious feeling ever. For once I didn’t have to look over my shoulder, stand up straight to seem like I could put up a fight and didn’t desperately grip my back and dress.

The a/c was on, blowing a cool breeze into the car, the roof had a window & fresh water droplets formed on the surface, mirroring & glistening with the city lights as they flickered by. My body relaxed and I looked up at the ceiling the background noise muffled as I slipped away into my day-dream. I had once taken this for granted but my detox from a private made me feel so much more appreciative of that very moment…

Hysan Place: Sift Opening

I have been going to Sift for the past 3 years and it has been one of my go to places, to both meet, eat and hangout with friends. Having been a lover of all things sweet all my life it was fate that I found this gem. At first Sift was a small patisserie in Horizon plaza in which I regularly visited but since then has taken off branching off to different areas in Hong Kong.

Their cupcakes are both fluffy, moist, sweet (but not sickeningly sweet) and flavourful. I have yet to try a cupcake that I like as much as theirs. With other new contenders such as Twelve cupcakes in Windsor House and Sweet Secrets located on Canal Road it is still my favourite.

They recently opened a new branch in Hysan Place in Causeway Bay. The shop is brightly lit with shelves upon shelves of cupcakes and a fridge full of cakes and macarons. I will drooling by the time I looked at the glass counter full of mini cupcakes! The simplistic yet elegant design reminded me of old book shops where they librarian must climb the ladder to reach the highest books, however in this case I mean reach for the glorious carrot cupcake on the tip top shelf. The shop was full of customers all wanting to grab a bite, at HKD $28  (for the large) they are relatively ok in price however, I still remember the days when they were $25.

20150826_171050At their newest branch they offered new cake pop/cookies that are available for purchase and a mooncake cookie set perfect for Moon festival coming up this September.
